Okidata C5550N Printer - A Performance Large Office Printer
This multifunction laser printer is capable of printing, copying, scanning and working as a fax. Although this unit was discontinued in July of 2009, the Okidata C5550N Printer is still available for sale. This is the unit that succeeded the C5510NMFP in August of 2007. The purchase price varies. The ink you need is C5550N compatible cartridge.
This is a heavy machine weighing 81 pounds. The imaging memory is 256K and it was made with an optional 40 GB Hard Drive. It is compatible with all versions of Windows. Paper capacity is 400 sheets or 930 if the optional second tray is purchased. The second tray retails for approximately two hundred dollars. It is also capable of two-sided printing.
Replacement Okidata C Series compatible toner cartridge can be purchased in a 4-color set. Colors include magenta, yellow, cyan and black. The 4-color kit may be purchased for about two hundred and seventy four dollars. Colors can also be purchased individually for almost any price. The prices range from sixty dollars a piece up until one hundred and fifty a piece, depending on which supplier is contacted.
The quality of print is by all means satisfactory with a maximum printing resolution of up to 1200 by 600 dots per inch for both mono and color. The speed it prints is at 32 pages per minute for mono and 20 pages per minute for color.
The strong suit of this machine is that it is a very capable network printer that will handle the heavy workload of a paper generating office. It is a durable machine that won't waste a lot of office time due to jamming. In fact, is has received reports of very few and infrequent problems.
Scanner abilities are documented as satisfactory. The machine may not be intended for heavy scanning usage. Network scanning is slower than the regular scan process, quality of scans have shown gray areas, however, for standard office use it is perfect.
The actual scan speed will not be faster than three seconds for black and white documents. Color documents will not scan faster than six seconds per page. The resolution for scanning is 4800 dots per inch. The Okidata will also scan to PC and it does have a built in address book manager.
The copier speed is up to 20 copies per minute and the black and white copies can be produced 32 per minute. The typical waiting time for a color copy is four seconds. Copy resolution is up to 600 by 600 dots per inch and available in three copy modes including speed, text and photo.
This machine has no trouble sending outbound faxes and incoming faxes can be received as long as the machine is turned on. It is capable of receiving error and miscellaneous communication errors when incoming faxes are being picked up. Fax resolution is 200 x 400 dots per inch. The C5550N compatible toner cartridge is great for heavy duty printing needs and has a very nice print quality.
