Mounting Debt At MGM Stops James Bond
Stories around the internet claim the latest James Bond film, as yet untitled, has hit the rocks with filming suspended, at least for now. The real issue is nothing to do with falling ratings or lack of profit, but instead the issue lay firmly at studio MGM's feet who are struggling with debt.
MGM (Metro Goldwyn Mayer) have put out the majority of the 22 bond films and were set to see work on the 23film begin soon, but thats been put on ice as MGM try to figure out their $3bn+ debts film begin shortly, but that has been scuppered as MGM looks to solve its $3bn+ debt issues. The former Hollywood grandee has put out just one film this year as the eagles circle to take over the stricken movie maker. Time Warner & Lionsgate are interested parties and are said to have made substantial bids, though not according to MGM's own valuation, so for now, Bond is effectively asleep.
Whilst speculating that Quantum of Solace will be the last James Bond movie ever is a little wild, fans were expecting to see Mr Bond leaving a trail of gorgeous women around airport hotels and swigging martinis at the bars by 2011, the 50th That seems unlikely considering lead actor Daniel Craig is busy and the money pot is dry for filming, but Bond has got out of bigger scrapes than this before. That would appear unlikely now, especially as Daniel Craig is filming elsewhere and the studio hasnt the cash to support production, but Bond is used to being put in a tough position.
How about a home movie to keep the fans happy? We'll need some help though from a volunteer, preferably under 50, male and with his own teeth. What we need is a tall, unshaven, middle aged man with his own teeth. A cheap HD camera, some plastic guns, tomato ketchup and a list of Gatwick airport hotels and bars to drop in, one bottle of Martini and a cocktail glass resplendant with umbrella. Add a blackjack table, a tuxedo, a fine women and a white lotus esprit turbo and we have all the storylines for the 23rd Bond film or James Bond: Debtraker.
YouTube tomfoolery aside, the industry's 3rd most popular film series in history, can't be ignored for long. MGM are well aware of the Bond franchise, having seen takings of over $500million on both of the last two films and hoepfully they can leverage that power to sort a deal out that returns our favourite spy to the screens, sooner rather than later.
GoSimply also provides comparisons for airport hotels for Dublin Airport hotels.
