How do I prove the hours that I've submitted on my time card?
At my job, we do not have a time clock machine. We all keep track of our time worked on a handwritten time card and submit it to our supervisors. Every week, my supervisor asks me some question about my hours. For example, she asked me if i really worked til such and such time or tells me, i thought you came in at this time that day....and so on. Then this past week she wasn't here and when i gave her my timecard, she came back and said, "Well someone said that they thought you left at 3:00 last Monday, WHEN I DEFINITELY stayed til 5pm. I think shes gotta be testing me or something, But i've always been right on my time.
Is there anyway that I track my time every day in a way that i can show my supervisor that without a doubt i was here. I can check my email at any computer so emailing her wont work.
Please help!
When you log in/out on your computer, it's a time clock of sorts. Have your IT dept. send you a record of your in/out times.
Ask your HR if you could sign in/out-and have someone initial your sheet. Make a copy, submit to your supervisor at the end of the week.
We were on the "Honor" system, like you - until some greedy coworkers were caught stealing time, i.e. writing that they were present when they were out on sick leave, walking in late and leaving early, etc. They had to make up that stolen time, plus they made it bad for the rest of us.
Eventually time clocks were installed, and that put an end to the "Honor" system. I.e., now if/when someone leaves early, they can't lie about it; if a person's absent, they can't claim they weren't.
In your case of being told that "someone said that they thought..." if that happens again, I'd say: "Do you have PHYSICAL proof that I left early?? If so, it's a lie, if not, it's hearsay." That's the problem. Managers would rather listen to hearsay than to hear the other side of the story.
Good luck
