Basic Differences Between Toner And Ink For Printer Cartridges
Making the decision to go for ink or toner cartridges is far easier once one understands the basic differences between the two types.
Ink is a liquid which includes pigments or dyes which basically ‘stain’ the text, design or image onto the surface. The ink is stored in a number of wells inside the cavity of the cartridge, and is squeezed through tiny holes and dispersed onto the paper. They can be replaced easily, are compact and cost-effective.
Toner is manufactured from carbon powder, which is mixed with a polymer and used in laser printers and copiers. These powders differ in composition between the various manufacturers. The smaller the particles in the toner powder, the better the resolution will be. Toners generally enable better quality printing, better efficiency and greater longevity.
Some of the considerations when choosing between ink or toner include budget, the type of printer and the printing requirements (ie is it a home printer or an office machine?).
When speed counts, a laser/toner printer is the better option as it provides a better PPM rate (papers per minute). The difference between the two is around three times the speed – ie where an ink cartridge gives 2/3 PPM, a toner printer can give 9 or 10 PPM.
There are variable results when it comes to the issue of quality. Inkjets are better for smaller volumes and photos, and laser is better for high volume printing with a lot of text on the pages.
From a budget perspective, inkjet printers are more affordable, but the operating costs can be higher.
Toner cartridges are more complex to manufacture and therefore more expensive per unit. However, say a Perth cartridge supplier, toner can prove more cost-effective if you calculate the cost per page. If you have to print a large amount of pages, say as much as 5000, then a toner printer is definitely the right choice. On the other hand, an average of 500 pages is around right for an ink cartridge. Compare the pages per cartridge against the cartridge price and make your decision based on the result.
Does the HP Color Laserjet 3600n come with starter cartridges or are they full capacity?
Thinking about buying the HP Color Laserjet 3600n, there's a crazy cheap price on it at a local store, cheaper than a set of toner! So, I need to know if I'm going to get starter cartridges (and be replacing the toner early) or if I'll get full capacity toner with it.
Starter cartridges, they are only good for about 500 pages.
